Is Genie+ the same as Lightning Lane? Which do I book?

The short answer
Same idea, new name. Genie+ was renamed Lightning Lane Multi Pass in July 2024, and the big change for planners: you can now book before your trip instead of scrambling at 7am each day of it. Any guide still saying 'Genie+' is old enough to be wrong about the details.
The rename matters because the mechanics changed with it. Under Genie+, everyone bought day-of at 7am — including bleary UK visitors on holiday. Under Lightning Lane Multi Pass, on-site guests book 7 days before check-in and off-site guests 3 days before each park day, which moves the stress to before the trip (where a UK planner can handle it at midday, not mid-holiday).
There are actually three products under the Lightning Lane name now: Multi Pass (the queue-skipping bundle most people mean), Single Pass (à la carte for the biggest headliners, priced separately), and Premier Pass (an expensive skip-everything option with limited availability). Multi Pass is the one the classic 'is it worth it' debate is about.
Rule of thumb for reading advice online: if it says Genie+, check the date on it. The community relearned this system in 2024 and a lot of confidently wrong advice survives from before.
