The short answer
No. The UK is on the US's 'six-month club' list, so a UK passport only needs to be valid for the length of your stay. The six-month rule applies to other countries, not to UK citizens entering the US.
This myth costs families real money in panicked fast-track renewals every year, and it's repeated by people who should know better — including occasional airline check-in staff. The US Customs and Border Protection list of six-month-club countries includes the United Kingdom, which means the general six-month rule is waived.
What you actually need: a passport valid for the duration of your stay, and a valid ESTA on the day you fly. That's it.
