Do we really have to tip at Disney World? How much?

The short answer

At sit-down restaurants, yes — 18-20% is the working norm, and US serving staff are paid on the assumption you will. Counter service: no tip expected, whatever the payment tablet suggests. Housekeeping: $1-2 per person per night, cash.

Tipping is the biggest single source of money-anxiety for UK first-timers, because it isn't optional in the UK sense: waiting staff are legally paid below minimum wage on the assumption tips make up the difference. 15% quietly signals the service was poor.

Where it doesn't apply: counter service, takeaways, and shop counters — the tablet will still ask, and declining is completely normal, Americans do it too.

Parties of six or more often have 18% added automatically ('gratuity included') — check the bill before adding more.
